’s growth in the U.S. independent power producer (IPP) market. EMPower has selected Wärtsilä to deliver ten Wärtsilä 31SG engines for a new 123 MW power plant in Odessa, Texas. This will be the largest Wärtsilä 31 installation in the world.

This project builds on our long-standing partnership with EMPower across several countries, and now we’re taking that collaboration even further with a 10‑year O&M agreement ensuring reliable power to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid.⚡

Wärtsilä 31SG engines are known for exceptional fuel efficiency, low CO₂ emissions, and fast start-up, reaching full output in just 2.5 minutes. That kind of flexibility is exactly what’s needed as renewables continue to grow in the United States power market. Once operational, the plant is expected to power around 30,750 homes. The order was booked in Q1 2026.
