Rolling blackouts announced for duration of hot season March 18, 2026 The Ministry of Electricity has announced nationwide rolling blackouts starting Wednesday citing reduced power generation and rising demand for electricity as the temperature climbs. The ministry said outages will be on a rotating schedule until the rainy season starts around June but did not say what the schedule would be. Premium electricity supplied to special industrial zones from liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plants will not be subject to cuts, it added. In reality, Myanmar been suffering increasing blackouts since the 2021 coup whatever the weather, forcing those who can afford it to use diesel generators or install solar panels. In previous hot seasons, many parts of the country enjoyed at best eight hours of electricity a day. (Photo: AFP) #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar
