**Key Insight:** The partnership between Rolls-Royce and China Airlines is a testament to the importance of reliable, high-efficiency engines in the modern aviation industry.

and
China Airlines
Expand Trent XWB Partnership with TotalCare Agreement
Rolls-Royce
has announced that
China Airlines
has signed a TotalCare® service agreement covering 36 Trent XWB engines. The agreement includes 30 Trent XWB-97 engines to power 15 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, as well as six Trent XWB-84 engines for three A350-900 aircraft. Airbus disclosed the A350-1000 aircraft order in 2025.
Under the agreement, China Airlines will continue to rely on Rolls-Royce’s comprehensive TotalCare service to support engine health monitoring, maintenance, and operational reliability. With the addition of the new aircraft, the airline’s A350 fleet will expand from 15 to 33 aircraft, all powered by Trent XWB engines.

Commenting on the collaboration,
Ewen McDonald
, Chief Customer Officer – Civil Aerospace at Rolls-Royce, said:
“Thanks to its outstanding fuel efficiency and reliability, the Trent XWB family has become a benchmark in the industry. The Trent XWB-97, in particular, is designed for high-intensity operations and is ideally suited to support airline network expansion. We appreciate China Airlines’ continued trust and will ensure they can confidently and efficiently grow into new markets through ongoing technology enhancements and world-class services.”

Since entering commercial service seven years ago, the Trent XWB-97 has accumulated more than four million flight hours. Rolls-Royce has already implemented the first two phases of its three-stage durability improvement programme, increasing Time on Wing by 60%.

Looking ahead, the third phase—scheduled to enter service in 2028—is expected to deliver a step change in performance. In harsh operating environments, Time on Wing is targeted to double, while in more moderate conditions, improvements of up to 50% are anticipated.

As
Rolls-Royce
’s flagship service offering, TotalCare transfers the uncertainty of engine maintenance costs and on-wing performance from the airline to the OEM, providing operators with a high level of operational predictability. Combined with advanced engine health monitoring, the service enhances dispatch reliability and maximises asset utilisation across the fleet.
