Rapid City Welcomes Sequitor Edge Data Center

I had the opportunity to share a few words at
Elevate Rapid City
as we officially welcomed
Sequitor Edge
to the Black Hills Industrial Center. As the Business Development Manager for
Black Hills Energy
, I’m especially proud of this project and what it represents for Rapid City and the region.

When many people hear “data center,” they imagine large campuses that reshape the landscape. But what Sequitor Edge is building here is something very different, a right‑sized, energy‑efficient edge computing facility built for the needs of western South Dakota businesses.

From an electric utility perspective, no new facilities were needed to support this project, our system is already designed for this type of load. And thanks to Sequitor’s focus on energy efficiency, the center’s electric needs are comparable to a larger grocery store or home improvement big box store.

We’re excited about this project because it brings:
Significant property tax revenue
Minimal impact on municipal services
High‑quality, high‑paying jobs
Advanced technology infrastructure for local businesses

This is responsible, right‑sized development that strengthens Rapid City without changing who we are.

We’re proud to welcome Sequitor Edge to the community and excited for the role they’ll play in shaping the future of technology in western South Dakota.

Thank you to the team at
Dream Design International
who helped make this project possible.

Rapid City's Welcome to Sequitor Edge Data Center: A New Chapter in the Development of Technology and Energy

In a world where technology is rapidly advancing, Rapid City has taken a significant step forward by welcoming Sequitor Edge to its Black Hills Industrial Center. This project represents a new chapter in the development of technology and energy, as it aims to create a right-sized, energy-efficient edge computing facility that meets the needs of western South Dakota businesses. The Business Development Manager for Black Hills Energy, I am particularly proud of this project and what it represents for Rapid City and the region.

When many people hear "data center," they imagine large campuses that reshape the landscape. However, what Sequitor Edge is building here is something very different. It is a right-sized, energy-efficient edge computing facility built for the needs of western South Dakota businesses. From an electric utility perspective, no new facilities were needed to support this project, as our system is already designed for this type of load. And thanks to Sequitor's focus on energy efficiency, the center's electric needs are comparable to a larger grocery store or home improvement big box store.

We are excited about this project because it brings several significant benefits. Firstly, it generates substantial property tax revenue for the city. Secondly, it minimizes the impact on municipal services, ensuring that the community remains functioning normally. Thirdly, it creates high-quality, high-paying jobs for local residents. Finally, it provides advanced technology infrastructure for local businesses, enabling them to stay ahead of the competition and thrive in today's digital age.

This is not just a project; it is a responsible, right-sized development that strengthens Rapid City without changing who we are. We are proud to welcome Sequitor Edge to the community and excited for the role they will play in shaping the future of technology in western South Dakota. Thank you to the team at Dream Design International who helped make this project possible.

As we look towards the future, Rapid City's investment in Sequitor Edge is not just a response to the growing demand for data centers but also a strategic move to ensure that the city remains at the forefront of technological advancement. By creating a right-sized, energy-efficient edge computing facility, we can attract more businesses to our area, generate more revenue, and improve the quality of life for our citizens.

In conclusion, Rapid City's investment in Sequitor Edge is a testament to our commitment to innovation and growth. As we continue to invest in technology and infrastructure, we will continue to build a stronger, more prosperous community for generations to come.
