When the grid can’t keep up, new power solutions are needed – and that’s exactly the challenge our customer HiVolt Energy faced for a new drilling program in Kermit, Texas, when they approached GridVest Energy. The site needed reliable power fast—but the local utility couldn’t serve the new load in time. Instead of waiting years for interconnection, HiVolt deployed a hybrid microgrid combining natural gas generators and battery storage. The project today: • 6 MW currently deployed, expanding to 12 MW • 3 × 2 MW natural gas generators paired with a 2.75 MWh battery storage system • The system smooths transient loads, reduces the number of generators needed, and keeps engines operating at optimal efficiency • The result: lower costs, improved reliability, and reduced emissions GridVest supported the project by delivering these islanded microgrid solutions to support various oil & gas sites, coordinating BESS procurement, tailoring equipment manufacturing for project needs, tariff & logistics management, financing, and commissioning.
