A former uranium enrichment site in Piketon, Ohio is being redeveloped into a 10-GW data center and 10-GW power generation megaproject to support growing AI-driven demand. The project, known as the PORTS Technology Campus, will be built on the 3,700-acre Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant site, which opened in 1955 and is now undergoing decommissioning. The development includes 9.2 GW of natural gas generation and will leverage existing high-voltage transmission infrastructure. Bechtel Corporation and Kiewit, part of the Portsmouth Consortium, have been selected to deliver engineering, procurement, and construction services for power plants, substations, and transmission systems, with construction expected to begin this year. The project is backed by a public-private partnership involving the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), U.S. Department of Commerce, SoftBank Group Corp., and AEP Ohio. It builds on a broader U.S.-Japan agreement that includes approximately $33 billion in Japanese funding for new energy infrastructure. #DataCenters #AIInfrastructure #EnergyInfrastructure #NaturalGas #PublicPrivatePartnerships #Bechtel #Kiewit #SoftBank #Ohio #DigitalInfrastructure
