**Key Insight:** Azerbaijani gas is now central to Serbia's energy security strategy, with plans advancing for a new gas power plant near Niš in cooperation with SOCAR.

📣 Pleased to share that I recently interviewed Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy,
Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic
.

We discussed how Serbia and Azerbaijan are rapidly building a new energy bridge between the Balkans and the Caspian region - based on diversification, infrastructure, and long-term vision.

🔹 Azerbaijani gas is now central to Serbia’s energy security strategy:
→ Long-term supply contracts already signed
→ Imports to reach 2 million m³ per day by the 2025–2026 winter season
→ Plans advancing for a new gas power plant near Niš in cooperation with SOCAR

🔹 Kalotina interconnector = strategic route:
Operational since January 2025, this pipeline is Serbia’s current gateway for Azerbaijani gas - a milestone for the Southern Gas Corridor.

👉 With new infrastructure coming online, Serbia is on track to become a true energy hub for Southeast Europe - balancing fossil fuel reliability and clean energy transition.

📌 Many thanks to Minister Đedović Handanović for the deep and forward-looking conversation. It’s a case study in how energy cooperation becomes a foundation for broader regional integration.

GasGx Editorial Insight
**Key Insight:** Azerbaijani gas is now central to Serbia's energy security strategy, with plans advancing for a new gas power plant near Niš in cooperation with SOCAR.

[Body Paragraph 1: Analysis of the market/tech situation]
The article highlights the strategic importance of Azerbaijani gas in Serbia's energy security strategy. With long-term supply contracts already signed and plans advancing for a new gas power plant near Niš, Serbia is on track to become a true energy hub for Southeast Europe. This development aligns with the broader goal of balancing fossil fuel reliability and clean energy transition.

[Body Paragraph 2: The specific operational implication]
For gas miners, this means increased competition in the Caspian region, as well as potential cost savings due to the use of more efficient and reliable Azerbaijani gas. However, it also presents challenges in terms of compliance with regional regulations and ensuring that gas is delivered safely and efficiently.

[GasGx Take:] To address these challenges, GasGx offers a range of solutions. Our LCOE Calculator can help miners accurately forecast their costs, while our Smart Monitoring System can provide predictive alerts to ensure uptime and maintenance are optimized. Additionally, our data integrity reporting features can help miners stay compliant with regional regulations and ensure that gas is delivered safely and efficiently.
